Bringing 90s Vibe To The Digital Era.

How was your New Year Eve celebration? Partying hard? Or, were you just like me, binge watching until I finally fell asleep. Whatever it is, just make sure that all the “New Year New Me” stuff is not just a one time euphoria. Make time to be grateful about everything (highs or lows) that God has allowed to happen to you in the past year, and write down every single thing that you want to see happen in the new year.

What’s more important is to actually keeping your hope alive, because you know sooner or later reality is gonna happen to you. Sometimes your plans will be delayed, postponed, or even canceled, but never stop believing that the journey of life is actually a constant road to better places.

Geesh what a long opening. I’m sorry. First post of 2018 will be about my current obsession over everything 90s. So I’m gonna compile some of my recent #OOTD photos and give you some useful tips plus what are the brands that I’ve been wearing (mostly locals). Gotta say thank you for my amazing photographers friends, Didi and Joel, who have been willing to help me in taking these ootd shots.

  1. Invest in accessory. By the way, prime colors is trending this year. Thus, the orange cap and yellow jacket.
  2. Oversized and tucked-in t-shirt is back. Balance your tee collection between the plain one and the printed one.
  3. Find something that can be your signature style. As for me, socks, apart from rounded-glasses, have been quite of my signature. I have plenty of them from any colors and patterns.
  4. Invest in basic outerwear like denim jacket and hooded pullover. Mine has a pair exaggerated sleeves that is really a head-turner. Oh, don’t forget to also invest in other basic stuff like a pair of black skinny jeans and white canvas shoes.
  5. Track pants are back. Enuff said.

Accidentally in Love with Spumante Cafe

Our encounter with Spumante was accidental. DR & I were driving around central Jakarta and we had about 2,5 hours to kill before meeting our friends to watch Zootopia. So, as always, we decided to just find a coffee shop, sit there and write.

The first cafe I had in mind was Anomali Coffee, because we were in Menteng area. However, Anomali was packed, and if you know us, we are not a big fan of an overcrowded public place. Luckily, right next to Anomali there is another coffee shop, Spumante. The place seemed nice, so we decided to drop by.

The interior was impressive as it has plenty of artistic typography mural painted on every wall. Right from the alfresco area, foyer, indoor and on their brewing station. We chose what looked like the comfiest spot at the corner of Spumante, sat there, opened our laptop, and ordered some beers. I also decided to order a plate of Taco Salad, as my empty tummy craved for some light meals.

Price wise, Spumante is quite affordable. Taste wise, I can’t really judge much but the Taco Salad was good. If you’re looking for some good place to chill and chase some deadlines, Spumante is definitely worth considering.

At the back side, they have this huge backyard and some private spaces to be rented for gathering, party or meeting. Of course, DR & I couldn’t resist the urge to quickly snap some good OOTD photos.

Snapback: H&M; Shades: Ruby’s; Denim Shirt & Pants: Topman; Tee: Adidas; Kicks: Nike; Watch: Nixon

We were accidentally twinning in denim that day. I wore a pair of white hi-top Nike Kicks, and newly bought H&M snapback to complete my look. While DR, was going plain in black, yet still stood out with that washed off denim jacket of his.

As you might have noticed, it was almost shaving time for me. I have always preferred a clean look, but lately I’ve been a little bit too lazy to shave. But that’s until this Garnier Men’s newest product, Power White, was delivered to my door. This 2 in 1 package is the perfect solution for every urban men out there who are just as busy as I am. It can be used as shaving foam AND cleansing brightening foam. Now I don’t have to use two different products to shave and to wash my face. This product is definitely a must have item on my traveling essentials!

Exploring the Urban Jungle

Jakarta is an urban jungle waiting to be explored.

Perhaps this urban jungle term came out because we miss the playground. As grown ups, we miss the little explorer deep inside each of us. At least that was how I felt when HG and I found this abandoned parking lot on our weekend exploration.

The explorers.

It rained heavily on a Sunday afternoon. The kind of rain that would scare little kids away instead of playing under it. However, these 20s explorers were keen of exploring an abandoned building HG spotted a few days ago. Needless to say, we were actually trespassing, which made it more fun.

This trespassing experience was not the first for us. If you missed out on Denim Day Out, you should head back to that post. It seems that our courage to trespass has gone higher each time. Kids, this isn’t something to follow, although I assume our readers are not kids anymore.

Ripped jeans, shamefully worn baseball shirt and snapback.

I wasn’t planning to wear black outfit from top to bottom, but the weather got me putting on my favorite sweater. Since I didn’t have much time to cut my hair, I decided to cover up the mess with my Topman snapback. One bad outfit decision was to wear my Nike Internationalist on a rainy season exploration. After jumping through a few puddles, I got it all messed up and dirty.

HG’s exploration started a few days ago when he found an old jeans in his closet. He decided to do a little DIY jeans ripping. He shamefully bought an H&M¬†baseball shirt and black snapback even though we made a bet not to shop until we lose some weight. Cheater cheater pumpkin eater!

A lot of jumping for HG that day.

Soon, the weather calmed down and left us with a lot of puddles to play with. The sun came out and the weather turned warm. It was funny how everything change all of a sudden in between seasons transitions. Isn’t it the same with growing up? One day you find yourself holding on to your grades in University, the next day you find them pretty much useless, leaving you helpless in securing a path for yourself.

Finding the light

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

The road to the higher level can sometimes be lonely.

Let me get personal with you. Transition and changes sucks. In the middle of my transition, I often found myself lost and confused about the directions I am heading to. There are times where I question myself.

“Am I going to make it?”

“Am I too idealist?”

I felt very weird at first, but I came to a conclusion that any normal fresh graduates would have the same questions, perhaps even more. Seasonal hardships are not something out of the ordinary. It is just a road I have to walk through, no matter how fast or slow.

It’s good to have friends who support you in whatever season you are in. They keep you from getting lost in the middle of the road. Moreover, they are great exploring companion when things are too stressing. You know what they say, “surround yourselves with people who believe in your dreams.”

Last Coffee O’Clock in 2015.

As I typed this 2015 has¬†officially ended. It’s amazing how time blinks, isn’t it? Anyhow, I’m not here to write¬†about the oh-so-boring¬†new year new me stuff, I’m here to share my new favourite coffee shop in town.

Tanamera is definitely not a new player¬†in the local coffee industry. I’ve been coming back to their outlet in Thamrin Residence for a few times. I love the coffee, the foods, and the place, yet sometimes it can be quite crowded and noisy because it’s not really big.

I never complained about it though, but I’d surely love it if they would just open a bigger outlet. And apparently, they did! The newly opened outlet is located in Ahmad Dahlan, just right beside Letter D.

The new outlet offers a semi-outdoor experience, with minimalist and very comfortable interior plus a very spacey exterior. If the weather is nice, you would love to sit at the outdoor area, sipping your coffee while reading a book or working with your laptop.

Last lunch in 2015, well spent with Mom and little sis

I went there with my Mom and little sis to have lunch together. Being a real salmon freak I chose salmon mayo wrap as my lunch, served with french fries.

Sydneysiders (part 3). Layers.

Traveling to Sydney during winter could be quite tricky and challenging. The temperature could drop to below 10 degree celcius in the morning (and at night), with a super cold breeze slapping your face that could possibly make your skin feels numb. But, at day light it’s mostly sunny, and you just wanna take off your jacket that you wore in the morning, hang¬†around in tee and put¬†your shades on.

The challenge was real. I felt like bringing my entire closet, but I also wanted to travel light. So I just brought two parkas, some shirts, one skinny jeans, two sweaters, one knitted shawl, and two pair of shoes to survive the whole 9 days in Sydney. How did I survive? Mix and match of course.

First OOTD picture in Sydney. Found this half bricked walls with some shadow play. A little tips to get a good OOTD photo: be aware of your surroundings, any stairs, any cool background or walls, if it’s shadow-ish (not compulsory) there goes your spot.

Yeap. And, another shadow play. Turtle Neck Sweater: H&M; Parka: Pull and Bear.

And, another one HAHA. Accidentally wearing all stripes and black outfit with my troops. Shawl: H&M; Stripes Tee: Topman; Kicks: Nike Airmax.

Parka and Kicks.

Below is one example of my mix and match game. I’ve worn the long sleeved denim shirt before with a sweater to gain a preppy look. In this look below, I wore the same shirt, but I only buttoned the first two buttons, wore¬†a black long tee inside, and paired it with my black parka (rolled it up a bit to show the long sleeved underneath) to gain a street style look. Put on a snapback to complete the look, and a high-top white kicks. Voila, there I was enjoying the night scene of Sydney’s downtown.

Exploring Hyde Park. Round Hat: Paddy’s Market; Parka: H&M; Tee: Topman; Kicks: Adidas

There were plenty of sale in almost every malls and shopping center, which made me broke. One of my takeaways from Sydney was this pair of navy blue suede Adidas Pro Model Vintage DLX.

Processed with VSCOcam with m5 preset

And I just had to wear it right away.

If you’re into shopping, other than malls and stores, you might wanna try to check out¬†the Paddy’s Market where you can get some cool stuff with friendly prices. You could also check some cool stores in Bondi area, and also The Rocks market which are only available on weekends.

I was being¬†so blessed, because my cousin, Omar, who’s a Sydney based shoe and leather goods designer gave me a pair of suede Oxford shoes and a leather wallet from his own brand, Seer. So I came to Sydney with two pair of shoes, and I went home with four pair of shoes. Life’s just beautiful. LOL.

New hat. New shoes. New wallet

So to close this post, here are some tips that you might find useful for traveling, especially to Sydney:

  1. Do some research. What are the current trends in your destination, how do people dress themselves in your destination. You wanna blend in but you also wanna stand out at the same time. You don’t wanna look underdressed but you also don’t wanna look overdressed. So yea.
  2. Make an outfit plan. Know what you wanna wear every day during your trip because will help you to pack better.
  3. Shop in advance. Sydney’s winter season is in mid-year, while the rest of the winter countries are in the end of the year. So if you visit Sydney during winter, don’t go looking for a new coat or jacket or any other winter outfit just few weeks before you depart. Go shop in December, the latest in February (sometimes the product you want might already be in end of season sale).
  4. Do an online window shopping before you go, check out what are¬†the cool stores or local brands that are not available in your country. Shopping is always permitted during holidays, but there’s no point in buying things that are already available in your own country. Right?
  5. Bring plenty of underwear and socks!
  6. Bring at least two pair of kicks, a comfy ones, that won’t make you feel cranky¬†after having a long walk.
  7. Shades is a must. Be it during spring, summer, fall or winter. Everytime the sun is up, the shades is on.
